Oscar De La Hoya Unconfirms Ryan Garcia v Gervonta Davis
Well it sounds like lightweight fighter Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (23-0, 19 KO’s) has gone out of his way to mislead the public…yet again! In a recent social media post, Garcia uploaded a message insinuating that a major fight with Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KO’s) is a done deal. The two have been woofing at one another for the past two years and at one point they had agreed to fight.
Yet, that was before Garcia abruptly withdrew from the match to supposedly fight boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. That match never materialized and according to his own promoter, it was never going to happen. Now that same promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, is saying that there is no fight deal between King Ry and Gervonta Davis at this point in time either.
MORE EMPTY WORDS
While fielding questions from media members, De La Hoya spoke directly to this issue.
“We’re in talks, yeah we are in talks but that is all that we can say. Is this fight going to happen? I believe so, I believe so, absolutely. This is the fight that both guys want and both sides want. This is the biggest fight in boxing today!”
According to De La Hoya, there is still a great amount of hope that his high stakes duel will take place, but there is nothing promised. Given how much damage his credibility has suffered over the years, you would think that King Ry would have learned his lesson about running his mouth in such reckless fashion. At one point, he even vowed not to do such a thing.
Clearly though, old habits die hard! So for the moment, the boxing world will just have to wait and see how everything works itself out. Obviously though, it probably wouldn’t be a smart move to bet anything you don’t want to lose on King Ry versus Tank Davis taking place next!
