Oscar De La Hoya states he has no problem making a Canelo vs Jermall Charlo bout!
Oscar De La Hoya likes the idea of his star fighter Canelo Alvarez facing undefeated interim WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. It’s no secret that Charlo wants a fight against the unified champion and arguably boxing’s biggest attraction.
Charlo also holds the mandatory position for the right to fight for the WBC title Alvarez holds. As a former IBF title holder at junior welterweight, he was provided a high rating when he moved to middleweight.
De La Hoya acknowledges that it’s a very exciting fight. Additionally, he mentioned a fight with IBF champion Daniel Jacobs is necessary. Here are some of his comments:
“Absolutely! I love that fight! I think that fight will happen in the future.
“Canelo will fight anyone! We have our plan. We know what we want to do and I think Canelo-Charlo will be a terrific fight.
“Mark my words he will fight them. Canelo wants to be great and in order to be great you have to fight the likes of Charlo and Jacobs.”
It’s also worth noting Canelo has confirmed “must-take” fights will happen in the future. This is a good sign for 2019.
These possible match-ups can only improve a division that is becoming one of the best in boxing!
