Prospect Diego Pacheco Proved Himself Ready for Bigger Names in 2022
3kingsboxing.com has named super middleweight standout Diego Pacheco (17-0, 14KO) its 2022 Prospect of the Year.
In 2022, Pacheco had an incredible run. He racked up wins that caught the attention of the boxing community. Blessed with terrific height, and exceptional power and skill, the young talent has amassed a bit of a following. He kicked things off with two back-to-back destructive stoppages over Genc Pilana and Raul Ortega.
PACHECO CONTINUED TO SHINE UNDER THE BRIGHT LIGHTS
On the undercard of the trilogy between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, the 6’4 Californian made an impression on the fans by mowing down Enrique Collazo. He managed to pick up the vacant WBC United States title in the process.
On another major trilogy featuring Juan Francisco Estrada versus Roman Gonzalez, Pacheco made a statement by running over veteran Ricardo Adrian Luna. Some may say that these were average opponents, but it is the way he has taken them out.
Pacheco, in each fight, has shown an uncanny maturity for a 21-year-old. His ability to rip off combinations and fight extremely well from a distance has impressed boxing enthusiasts. Moreover, he has drawn comparison to two-time WBC champion David Benavidez, and for good reason since he is trained by Benavidez’s trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn foresaw his potential and signed the young man in 2018. With smooth fighting skills, Pacheco has earned a spot as the WBO #9 ranked contender.
Fans are excited to see what is next for the young man as he has proven to be ready for some of the bigger names in the division.
