Daniel Dubois Bloodies Fabio Wardley; Itauma Should Be Next
In a thrilling candidate for Fight of the Year, “Dynamite” Daniel Dubois (23-3, 22KO) became a three-time heavyweight champion after stopping one-time WBO champion Fabio Wardley. With this victory, Dynamite could rematch Wardley, or have a trilogy against unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. Yet, the fight that may happen is with WBO #1 rated contender Moses Itauma.
These fighters threw punches with bad intentions from the opening round. Wardley (20-1-1, 19KO) looked dominant early, scoring two knockdowns. However, Dubois stayed calm and composed and took over the fight with a power jab. He had Wardley’s face looking like a bloody mess. After receiving brutal punches in the corner, the referee stepped in to save the one-time champion.
Queensberry Promotions CEO Frank Warren revealed that a rematch clause does exist. However, Wardley may need some time off after taking an unnecessary beating. This author’s believes the corner should have stopped the fight considering how bloody his face looked.
A trilogy with Usyk (24-0, 15KO) is something fans probably don’t want to see. In their rematch, he knocked out Dubois with ease in five. That leaves a fight with the WBO’s #1 rated fighter, Itauma (14-0, 12KO). This is the fight to make, as the undefeated fighter is calling for a title shot. DAZN did a survey and the majority of fans voted to see Dubois vs Itauma next.
It will be interesting to see what happens next.
