Scotney Wants Undisputed; Targeting Cruz And Mercado Next

Unified super bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney (9-0), after putting on a career-best performance, is looking toward undisputed. That means she will be going after WBA champion Erika “Dinamita” Cruz and WBC champion Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado.

Scotney is riding high after becoming a unified champion in under ten fights after dethroning two-time WBO champion Segolene Lefebvre. She put on a masterclass performance that many pundits believe makes her the favorite to dethrone the other two remaining champions.

During the post-fight interview, when asked what’s next, without hesitation she replied:

“Undisputed! I’m ready and waiting.”

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn stated that another unification could be next en route to undisputed.

“I think she’s established herself as number one in the division now. There are two other fights. Erika Cruz and Mercado – one of those will be next.”

THE PATH TO UNDISPUTED

With everyone on the same page, let’s take a look and see which champion could face Scotney next.

Mercado (22-3, 5KO) in her latest tour of duty in the ring successfully defended the title against Paulette Vanzeula in August 2023. Yeimi can match the unified champion in the footwork and punch-combination departments. In addition, she likes to use the jab to control the tempo which could cause problems for the unified champion.

Cruz (17-2, 3KO) would likely get the nod to fight Scotney next, considering they both fight under the Matchroom Boxing umbrella. Dinamita is very good at getting opponents to fight her style of match, which is in a phonebooth. The unified champion isn’t one to shy away from contact, so this match-up would be an all-action affair. The Mexican shocked the boxing public by dethroning Mayerlin Rivas for the title in November 2023.

It’s worth mentioning that both champions have upcoming fights. But if they are victorious, then one of them will get the call for a unification.
