Erik Bazinyan Easily Stops Godoy; Albert Ramirez Beats Zilatdinov
Top super middleweight contender Erik Bazinyan (31-0, 22KO) made quick work of relatively unknown Bill Godoy (41-7, 20KO) via third round knockout.
In this stay-busy fight, Bazinyan was very aggressive from the beginning of the opening round. He used the jab to control the fight and quickly imposed his will by landing several right hands.
It was obvious the fight was going to be over early as Bazinyan couldn’t miss with the right hand and wobbled Godoy a few times. In the third round, he landed a perfect overhand right that put the Argentinian on the canvas.
The referee waved off the fight as Godoy took his time getting off the canvas. It marked the second straight knockout victory for Bazinyan, who did what a fighter of his caliber is supposed to do against a below-level opponent.
In the post-fight interview, Bazinyan sent a message to the top names in the division to be ready for him. The reality is he may have to fight fellow stablemate Christian Mbilli because the undisputed champion, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, won’t be looking his way anytime soon
ALBERT RAMIREZ WINS WBA MINOR TITLE OVER ARTUR ZILATDINOV
Light heavyweight top-rated contender Albert Ramirez (18-0, 15KO) picked the WBA International title after defeating Artur Zilatdinov (15-2, 12KO).
Ramirez was able to do whatever he wanted in this fight. He fought beautifully from behind the jab and was lethal off the front foot. His feints, fast hands, and footwork kept Zilatdinov in defense mode in the first half of the fight.
Zilatdinov found success in the middle rounds as the pace slowed down by landing hard body shots. He was even starting to land good counter shots, taking advantage of his opponent’s lack of volume.
Despite finishing the fight strong down the stretch, Ramirez made the fight difficult by fighting on the inside, which benefited his opponent. When the final bell sounded, the judges’ scorecards were 100-90, 99-91, and 98-92 in favor of Ramirez.
The first two scorecards are criminal because they give the illusion this was an easy fight for the undefeated contender. 3Kings Boxing scored 97-93 for Ramirez.
