Filip Hrgovic Eyes Dubois Rematch After Gritty Win in Riyadh
Filip “El Animal” Hrgovic has long been a fixture in the heavyweight ranks, carrying world rankings across all four sanctioning bodies. Now, the Croatian powerhouse is hungry for redemption against the lone man to blemish his record — Daniel Dubois.
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) showcased his toughness and firepower, scoring a dominant unanimous decision over David Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs) with wide scorecards of 98-91, 99-90, and 99-90. Battling through a nasty cut above his right eye suffered in the early rounds, “El Animal” leaned on a stiff left jab and heavy combinations to break Adeleye down, scoring a knockdown in the eighth before cruising to victory against a determined challenger.
While many in boxing expect undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk to hang up the gloves by 2026, potentially opening a lane to a vacant world title shot, Hrgovic has other business on his mind. In June 2024, he suffered his only professional defeat — a thrilling eighth-round stoppage at the hands of Dubois. That loss still burns, and the big man from Croatia has made it clear that his top priority is securing a second chance.
