Floyd Schofield Gets The Win Against Suero’s Dirty Tactics

In his latest tour of duty, rising lightweight fighter Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KO’s) claimed a bittersweet victory. This was because he was awarded the win by way of disqualification due the numerous dirty tactics by his foe, Esteuri “El Puma” Suero (13-2, 10 KO’s).

Schofield very nearly got El Puma out in the first after clothing his jaw in a handsome wardrobe of heavy left hooks. Despite his success, Schofield, ranked #4 (WBA), did not come out the opening round unscathed. After lunging himself, the Texan resident instigated an accidental headbutt that opened a nasty cut over his right eye.

Even after being saddled with the compromising gash, Schofield remained the boss and continued periodically hurting Suero. As he could not properly adjust his strategy or match speed and power, El Puma resorted to dirty tactics. So many in fact that he was warned numerous times, deducted two points and ultimately disqualified in the fifth by referee Raul Caiz Jr.

While it was a dominant victory, Schofield demonstrated that he needs to work on his in-ring patience. It was his own over-eagerness that led to his cut and consistently jammed up potential scoring opportunities. With more experience however, Schofield should gain more of the professional level poise he is looking for.
