O’Shaquie Foster to Face Eduardo Hernandez in Mexico in October
On August 19, 3kingsboxing.com reported that WBC junior lightweight champion O’Shaquie “Shock” Foster’s (20-2, 11 KOs) first title defense would likely be against Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez who is the mandatory challenger by the WBC at 130.
That matchup has now been finalized. Foster and Fernandez will battle it out on October 28 at the Benito Juárez Sports Center in Cancun, Mexico, live on DAZN.
BOTH FIGHTERS HAVE PLENTY TO PROVE
Foster has been one of the surprise stories of 2023. The 29-year-old from Orange, Texas won the then-vacant WBC title in February 2023 with an unsound decision victory over two-division champion Rey Vargas. Hungry to show that he’s not a one-hit wonder, the defending champion said the following about his upcoming title defense:
If Foster wants to leave the ring with his hand held in victory, he has to defeat Hernandez in his home country of Mexico. The 25-year-old from Mexico City has the reputation for being a big puncher. Rocky has stopped his last six opponents.
Will Foster prove that he is indeed a world champion with staying power? Can Hernandez ride the wave of fighting on home turf to carry him to victory? Those matters will be settled in what’s expected to be an exciting night in Mexico.
