Stephen Fulton Believes That Brandon Figueroa Doesn’t Want a Rematch

On June 4, WBO and WBC super bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (20-0, 8 KO’s) will step in the ring for his first bout of 2022. On that date, on a Showtime Boxing fight card, Fulton will face the challenge of Daniel Roman for the first time as a unified champion. It was in his previous fight, versus Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (22-1-1, 17 KO’s), that Fulton became a unified champion in the first place.

Not only was the match between Figueroa and Fulton long in the making, it lived up to all the hype and anticipation. The two pugilists got in the ring and waged high-quality warfare for twelve straight rounds. In the end, the action was so close that Cool Boy Steph only managed to prevail by majority decision. Realizing the fickle nature of boxing fans and insiders, Fulton was quick to offer The Heartbreaker a rematch in order to put all doubt to rest. Not only this, he continued to offer the rematch to Figueroa.

RUN IT BACK AND PROVE IT THEN!

Despite being offered the rematch, the Texas native has remained rather ambiguous about the whole proposition. Yet, as explained to 3Kings Boxing in a recent exclusive interview, Fulton is content in the fact he did everything he could to crush any controversy.

“A lot of people told me the same thing, that I lost the first fight, alright so we going to run it back! So I can make it cleaner. And what he did? It ain’t his first time doing that either! And I offered that [the rematch], and am the fucking champion! I won! And I offered that, so after that I was like ‘get the fuck out my face now!’ . . . Yeah, he was acting like a hoe!”

“When a person wins a fight like that and everything happened the way that it happened, and you ask the champion, ‘would you want to face him again?’ That’s kind of disrespectful to me because it’s like, ‘what, you thought I lost too?’ Nobody is asking him these questions, but y’all are asking me these questions and I am the one that won.”

There is little doubt that Figueroa will come to hear about the words that Fulton had to say about him. So, once that happens, it’ll be interesting to see if The Heartbreaker has any more of an appetite to face Cool Boy Steph once again. Yet, no matter how it unfolds, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
