Gabriela Fundora Confident She Would Conquer Gabriela Alaniz

One of the impressive fighters of 2024 has been reigning IBF women’s flyweight champion Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (14-0, 6 KOs). The resident of Coachella, California believes she’s the best at 112 and is ready to prove it in a showdown with the unified champion, Gabriela “La Chucky” Alaniz (15-1, 6 KOs). It’s a fight that Fundora is confident that she will win.

READY TO TAKE OVER THE DIVISION

Fundora successfully defended the IBF strap with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Daniela Asenjo on the undercard of Sergii Bohachuk versus Vergil Ortiz on August 11 in Las Vegas. Following her win, Sweet Poison told the boxing media that her goal was to fight Alaniz for what would be the undisputed flyweight title. When asked how she would fare against the unified champion, Fundora said the following:

“If we get that fight, it’s going to be a great fight, and we’ll be the one with the hand raised at the end of the night.”

Alaniz became the unified champion with a majority decision win in a rematch with Marlen Esparza in April 2024. La Chucky is an aggressive fighter with an extremely high work-rate. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alaniz also has a solid defense, even though she loves to attack.

But she would be in for a tough go against Fundora, who won the title by a fifth-round knockout over Arely Mucino in October 2023. The IBF champion would hold considerable advantages in height and reach against Alaniz. Sweet Poison is highly skilled and a terrific combination puncher that can hurt you with either hand. She also is one of the best inside fighters in the sport. Don’t let her sweet demeanor and constant smile outside the ring fool you. Once the bell rings, the Fundora is all business and fights with a mean streak.

Fundora’s promoters, Golden Boy Promotions, believe the 22-year-old is a rising star. Sweet Poison is ready to prove that she’s the current queen of 112 with a win over La Chucky. If it were up to Team Fundora, the sooner it can happen, the better.
