Devin Haney Should Unify at Welterweight Next – Rolly or Crocker
Newly crowned WBO welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney breathed new life into his career with his decisive victory over Brian Norman Jr. on November 22. Now back in the title picture, the options on the table for The Dream are plentiful – minus a critical Conor Benn, apparently. Haney should channel his renewed head of steam to unify with either IBF champion Lewis Crocker or WBA champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
Either fight serves Team Haney well, but a clash with Rolly has long been called for. Their rivalry goes all the way back to their time at 135. With both being champions at 147, there could be no better time to put these two names together on a marquee.
A fight with Crocker lacks the juicy backstory of a Romero fight, but a win here elevates him to top dog status all the same. Having just claimed his title in September, Crocker’s schedule could line up well with Haney’s. That assumes he doesn’t get the Conor Benn UK showdown he openly called for.
WBC champion Mario Barrios is scheduled to face Ryan Garcia on February 21, so those two are off the table for now. However, if Crocker and Romero talks both end up going nowhere, Haney should focus target a unification fight in that direction. Either way collecting, a second title should be priority number one for Team Haney.
