David Benavidez Facing Zurdo Ramirez Following Yarde TKO Win
For his latest prizefight, WBC light heavyweight champion David “The Monster” Benavidez (31-0, 25 KO’s) walked down a game Anthony Yarde en route to seventh-round TKO. The match stood as his third in the division and his first stoppage in nearly two full years. Sadly, for Yarde, this was his third attempt at a world title and his third knockout loss.
As for Benavidez, he wasted no time in announcing his next battle with unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (48-1, 30 KO’s), during his post-fight interview. The two champions are slated to go head-to-head on Cinco de Mayo weekend in 2026. Ramirez is currently riding a four-fight win streak since suffering his sole professional loss to Dmitry Bivol back on May 14, 2022.
To date, The Monster has yet to have a seriously bad day in the ring or suffer a loss. Therefore, it will be very interesting to see how Benavidez rises to the occasion in May. No matter who comes out on top, there is little to no reason to believe that the fans will not be treated to one exciting war!
