Eddie Hearn Blames Greed for Tyson Fury Holding Up Undisputed Fight
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn dished out harsh criticism toward WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (33-0-1, 24KO) for holding up undisputed with unified champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13KO). Moreover, he mocked the WBC champion stating the hold-up is because of Fury’s greed.
The boxing community is growing frustrated with the hold-up in the undisputed showdown negotiations. Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, came under fire on talkSPORT before finally issuing a deadline to get it done.
Boxing fans were shocked to hear The Gypsy King turned down an offer of a 60/40 split to the winner. Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, dropped that bombshell in an interview with talkSPORT. Furthermore, he stated they originally agreed to a 50/50 split, but Fury wanted more money.
EDDIE HEARN BLASTS FURY FOR BEING TOO GREEDY
Hearn has dealt with Team Usyk successfully in the past on two occasions. During an interview with iFL TV, the British promoter dished out a verbal tongue-lashing.
“Anthony Joshua fought Oleksandr Usyk back to back, no fucking problems. No questions, no long negotiations – ‘that’s my mandatory I’ll fight him’.”
“When are you guys out there gonna start understanding, right?
(Mocking Tyson Fury) ‘It’s not about the money, I’ll fight him for free as long as the tickets are free for the general public.’
Fuck off! You want money, you want too much money. You’re not the draw you think you are. That fight not as big as you think it is.”
“Greed! If you’re about legacy, if you want to be undisputed, then you take the fight . . . you’ve all been played for all these years.”
Hearn believes the WBC champion is worth more than a 50/50 split but will need to make concessions for the fight to happen. The boxing world is praying the undisputed showdown gets over the line.
