Richardson Hitchins Sets his Sights on Beating Teofimo Lopez

Unbeaten junior welterweight Richardson Hitchins (16-0, 7 KOs) is a fighter who believes he’s on the road to becoming a household name. He has ambitions of becoming a world champion and is targeting a shot at reigning WBO 140-pound champion Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs).

AT THE TOP OF HIS HITLIST

Currently ranked fifth by the WBO at junior welterweight, Hitchins is part of an up-and-coming group of young fighters who are hungry to make their mark in the sport. The 25-year-old from Brooklyn, New York impressed in his most recent outing, a ten-round unanimous decision win over John Bauza in February 2023. Full of confidence, Hitchins isn’t shy about calling out fighters, as evidenced by a recent social media post directed at Lopez.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

But there are more hurdles that the New Yorker must jump over before any possible fight with the WBO champion. On September 23, Hitchins will face former world title challenger Jose Zepeda (36-3, 27 KOs) at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida, on DAZN. This is the first time he will be headlining a card. On paper, Zepeda is the toughest test of his career. But the unbeaten contender is looking to have a dominant performance and put on a show for the viewing audience.

Should he take care of business against the durable Zepeda and continue his winning ways, Hitchins moves one step closer to the match he ultimately wants, a world title shot with Lopez.
