Daniel Dubois Believes Filip Hrgovic Doesn’t Want to Fight Him
Top-ranked contender Filip ”El Animal” Hrgovic (17-0, 14) has been calling for the big names in the heavyweight division. But is Britain’s Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs) the one fighter in the division that Hrgovic doesn’t want any part of in the ring?
According to Dubois, that’s the case. The 26-year-old went to social media and left the following message for Hrgovic:
“Hrgovic, I’m the daddy. I heard you’ve been calling out everyone else’s name. I can’t hear mine. Are you ready because I’m ready?”
MESSAGE DELIVERED
Dubois is making it clear that Hrgovic is on his hitlist. Dynamite is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career – a unanimous decision victory over Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller in December 2023 in Saudi Arabia. The win raised Dubois’s stock, and he’s again a prominent name in the division.
To Dubois’s point, Hrgovic has been on record saying that he wants to fight unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua, *and a rematch with reigning WBO Interim champion Zhilei Zhang. You’ve yet to hear him verbalize a public desire to fight Dubois.
Hrgovic is next scheduled to fight on the March 8 undercard of Joshua versus Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. As of this writing, there’s been no opponent announced for Hrgovic.
If El Animal wants to prove that he’s not avoiding Dubois, why not a matchup between himself and Dubuois in March? Given Dubois’s most recent statement, a fight between the two makes all the sense in the world.
