Teofimo Lopez Outs Romero Injuries Ahead of Pitbull Fight
While fielding questions during a recent media round table, WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (19-1, 13 KO’s) took a serious shot at former chum and WBA 140-pound champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 13 KO’s).
“What can I really think? Rolando Romero is coming off a really bad back injury and he’s a lot of problems there. You guys probably didn’t know about that, huh? Well, I did! Shit, I know a lot of shit. It’s time to expose everybody, fuck ’em! So, my whole thing is he’s got a lot of back problems, a lot of neck problems. Maybe Pitbull could take advantage of that when they fight each other.”
DIRTY BUSINESS
Honestly speaking, this latest tactic comes off as somewhat a snake-ish move. Granted, there has been a growing tension between the two since they have occupied the same junior welterweight division together. Although, Team Lopez have been far more caustic when discussing Rolly. In fact, the only thing that Rolly did was warn The Takeover that he has inside information.
Of course, the two are now direct competitors. But to go out of his way to supply his former friends’ camp with such reconnaissance is wild. Going a step further, not only did he blow the whistle, The Takeover gave intel that could potentially get Romero seriously hurt. That seems a tad extreme just because they are housed in the same division.
IT’S A THIN LINE…
Perhaps this will go down as the first drawn blood in a lengthy and ongoing conflict. Given that Rolly has essentially talked himself into the position he is in within the sport, it’s unlikely that he will merely tuck tail and run away from this verbal smoke.
