John David Jackson Doesn’t Respect Savannah Marshall’s Power
In the prelude to the prizefight for undisputed status between WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (12-0, 2 KO’s) and WBO 160-pound champ Savannah “The Silent Assassin” Marshall (12-0, 10 KO’s), much has been made about Marshall’s power. To date The Silent Assassin has stopped all but two of her twelve opponents.

Working under the tutelage of chief second Peter Fury, The Silent Assassin has thus far used her boxing acumen, height, reach and counter-punching ability to become a formidable fighter. Yet, Team Shields apparently does not see it that way. T-Rex has spoken at length about how she believes Marshall’s record is more smoke and mirrors than anything else. Likewise, her head coach, John David Jackson, feels the same way as he told SecondsOut.
“Look at the opposition, girls on two days notice, three days notice, 154-pound fighters coming to fight a super middleweight type girl. She’s had all the advantages in her favor! Now she is going to fight someone who is not afraid of her, she is not there for a payday.
“She’s there for a pay day, let me take that part back, she is there for the pay day but not just the payday. She is there to get a victory.”

Shields and Jackson first teamed up to face the challenge of Hanna Gabriels back on June 22, 2018. Not only was it their first bout together, it was the first time that female boxers enjoyed the main event slot on a Showtime telecast.
Since that time, T-Rex and Jackson have fought and defeated: Hannah Rankin, Femke Hermans, Christina Hammer, Ivana Habazin, Marie Eve Dicaire and Ema Kozin. Under his watchful eye Shields has been able to tighten up her punches, improve accuracy and plug a few holes in her defense. Now, with this new upcoming battle on enemy ground, Jackson believes it’s just another opportunity to showcase his fighter’s skill.
“This fight has been a long time in the coming because Savannah always talked about she shouldn’t live off the merits of her victory as an amateur. Claressa from day one as a professional has had to fight top opposition, she didn’t get a girl on two days’ notice, three days’ notice, 10-pounds lighter than me, 15-pounds lighter.
“She had to fight world class competition and she has done that. And maybe she hasn’t knocked everyone out but she has beaten them decisively each and every time. So this fight here you could get a chance to shut somebody’s mouth!”
