Jermall Charlo Seeking Plant After Besting LaManna
After wrestling with his own issues for a year and half, former middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (34-0, 23 KO’s) got in a few rounds to knock off some ring rust. In his return prizefight, Hit Man fought the often-comical Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna. It was important for Charlo to leave a good impression given a looming big money clash with interim WBA super middleweight champ Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (23-2, 14 KO’s).
“They know what it is, they know where I’m at – I want my lick back! You know its going down!”
Along those lines, Charlo took care of business by finding his form and collecting the win. Visually, Hit Man left a bit to be desired as he was built not unlike Craig squabbling with Debo. Admittedly, Charlo was moving up in weight. So perhaps there is more tweaking and adjusting to be done with diet in training camp, but on this go-around he was alarmingly pudgy around the edges.
Now that Charlo has taken care of business it will be interesting to see if Plant carries through with facing Charlo. Given his track record, there is no reason to believe the interim champion wouldn’t jump at the chance. Although, just as Charlo had to beat LaManna, Plant has to best his upcoming foe Jose Resendiz. Provided that he does, we should get a fight announcement between the two rather quickly.
