PBC Release Fall and Winter Schedule

So far, since boxing was derailed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, Top Rank has lead the charge in terms of bringing the sport back to national airwaves. During this time, they have suffered a number of setbacks, mainly in the form of canceled fights. Those bouts would fade from various cards due to either the boxer, or a team member, testing positive for the coronavirus. Now, Premier Boxing Champions is gearing up to join Top Rank in the battle to keep boxing on American television. As a result, the powerful company just released a listing of all the fights scheduled for the remainder of 2020.

BACK IN THE FIRE

Since resuming their televised fight schedule, a top gripe for fans with Top Rank is their often times lopsided prizefights. There have been a number of evenly contested bouts. Unfortunately though, there have been far more mismatches and prizefights waged by complete unknowns.

In this regard the PBC line-up should provide a bit of an improvement. However, they do have a few lackluster bouts on paper as well. On the more positive side, we can look forward to WBC world junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (33-1, 17 KO’s) facing WBA and IBF world junior middleweight champion Jeison “Banana” Rosario (20-1-1, 14 KO’s) in an exciting unification match.

Appearing on the same card, Iron Man’s brother WBC world middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (30-0, 22 KO’s) will test his might against Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KO’s). The exciting double-header will take place on September 26. The following month, wildly popular regular WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KO’s) will take on WBA world junior lightweight champion Leo Santa “El Terremoto” Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KO’s).

The only notable drawback for the two fight cards is the fact that both events will air on pay-per-view.

ON DANGEROUS GROUND

Outside of the pair of PPV bouts, the PBC will provide several worthwhile prizefights to air on SHOWTIME. Only time will tell if Premier Boxing Champions will experience the same level of difficulty that Top Rank has. Ideally, having been able to watch their rival from the sidelines, they’ve been able to learn and can improve safety measures.

Realistically speaking though, with frequent spikes in COVID-19 activity, it’s not likely that PBC will operate minus any drawbacks whatsoever for the remainder of the year. So, bearing this in mind, we should look forward to the upcoming slugfests, but do so with your fingers crossed!
