Caleb Plant responds to fans on social media that said he was too slow
The entire boxing world got turned upside down after witnessing the scuffle during the press conference between unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (56-1-2, 38ko) and IBF champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant 21-0, 12ko). Afterward, Plant took to social media with proof he laid hands on Alvarez in the build-up to the undisputed showdown.
The amount of frustration between these two fighters has been building to this point. Moreover, no one should be surprised that a scuffle took place as both teams have a genuine animosity towards each other.
THE BRAWL AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE
Fighters exchange words during a face-off all the time. Furthermore, fans expect to see a stare-down. The more intense the stare-down, the more intrigue the fight generates. But in some cases, when a fight breaks out, it sends the boxing social network into a frenzy.
While trading verbal attacks, something was said that triggered Alvarez to push the taller IBF champion. Sweethands then swung on the Mexican mega-star, which caused Canelo to retaliate. Moreover, Plant suffered a cut below his right eye on the cheek, and social media was buzzing with claims that Plant was not fast enough and missed.
The proud champion from Nashville quickly killed that noise, taking to social media with proof he landed a solid slap to the face of the unified champion.
THE FRUSTRATION HAS BEEN BUILDING
During the negotiation process in making this fight, it became clear that Sweethands was getting a little annoyed with the demands from Alvarez. When the fight got canceled, the IBF champion vented his frustration by saying they gave Canelo everything.
“Canelo was offered the highest guarantee of his career. He was set to make $40 million, plus Mexican TV rights and his Hennessy Sponsorship. Then they wanted upside of gate and PPV revenue, no problem we gave it to him. Let’s rumble.”
Then the straw that broke the Camel’s back was when the Mexican mega-star wanted the guarantee to apply for a late replacement in case Plant pulls out. When the top brass at Premier Boxing Champions was unwilling to comply, team Alvarez walked away. However, DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn revealed team Alvarez was going to try one last time to make the fight by speaking with PBC boss Al Haymon.
“They do want to fight Caleb Plant….So they will reignite that and see what Mr. Haymon says when they go back for seconds.”
Both sides were able to finally reach an agreement, and fans were excited to learn the fight to crown the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion was locked in.
With everything that has happened, fans can expect both champions to hold nothing back. Catch all the action live on Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 6.
