Porter Feels Spence is Underestimating Him!

From the moment that Spence v Porter was announced, the IBF welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (25-0, 21 KO’s) has been touted as the hands down favorite. When initially confronted with the glaring disparity in public opinion, WBC welterweight champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter came across as mad.

As time wore on, it seems as if Showtime is now using the lack of faith as motivation. Currently, he just wants to get in the ring to prove the doubters wrong.

SHORT CHANGED?

In many regards, it’s somewhat odd that the community is wholly dismissing Porter in the way that they are. To play devil’s advocate, Showtime does have a pair of losses on his record. So he can’t say that he is undefeated like Spence. At the same time however, when it comes to fighting the welterweight division’s best, Porter arguably has the best resume.

Going a step further, there has not been a single prizefight where Porter was severely dusted off or obviously outclassed. Whether win, lose or draw Porter has consistently remained wildly competitive regardless of his foe. For that reason alone, it’s hard to believe that Spence will steamroll Porter in any form or fashion.

“It’s only a matter of time. Anything that he’s written off, he’s about to find out.”

WHO IS OVERLOOKING WHO?

Clearly, Showtime has resigned himself to this overwhelming public perception. In some aspect, Porter has begun thinking that on some level Spence has become a bit complacent. In the mind of Porter, the Truth is planning on relying on his overt physical tools to overwhelm him.

This theory, let Porter tell it, will be a grave mistake. Along these lines, Showtime is quick to point out his own top-flight pedigree and his own diverse array of tools.

“No matter what, no matter when I’m going to be right there and do whatever it takes to get the job done. I think that Errol is relying on his size. I think that he is relying on the power that he’s held through twenty-five fights against guys who shy away from him. I think that’s what he’s relying on. He thinks that he can knock me out, things like that.”

Not that he will neglect his bullish ways when in against Spence, Porter is motivated to showcase his diversity in the ring. Similar to the Truth, he has faith in his ability to adapt and perceive in real time what adjustments need to be implemented. If this proves to be true, then the would-be all-action fight might take on more chess match overtones than many would foresee or care for.

All in all, it’s is due to all these plausible unknowns that make this such a great fight!

“I think that he may overlook it or underwrite it or whatever the case may be, but the jab is there. The straight right hand is there. The skill’s is there. I have boxer’s eyes, I know what I’m looking at and I know what I want to see. I will see what I want and get it!”
