Prograis Still Waiting for Haney to Make the Fight Official
WBC junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24KO) is excited about the potential showdown with unified lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15KO), but he wants to caution everyone against assuming the fight is a done deal. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic that it will come to fruition.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed they have a location secured for the fight, but Haney has not yet put pen to paper. Speculation has grown surrounding a December 9 date for the bout, fueling rumors that the fight is on the verge of being confirmed.
WAITING ON THE OTHER SIDE TO SIGN
Rougarou took to social media via a live feed to remind fans that a fight is not officially sanctioned until both parties have signed the contract.
“The truth is I signed my side five weeks ago, damn near six weeks ago now. So, I’m just waiting on the other side. I do feel like it’s going to happen. So, we are just waiting on that now, that’s all.”
When fans asserted that the fight was a done deal, he responded:
“Nothing is a done deal until both sides are official. It can’t be a done deal . . . done deal on my side.”
It’s worth noting that The Dream also took to social media to inform fans that the fight is indeed slated for December. While the contract may not have been inked yet, and there hasn’t been an official announcement, this highly anticipated matchup is in the works.
Haney is coming off a closely contested unanimous decision victory against multi-divisional champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20. Prograis faced heavy criticism for his lackluster performance in a title defense against Danielito Zorrilla on June 17.
