Could Devin Haney v Vasyl Lomachenko Land On Pay-Per-View?

It’s a foregone conclusion that undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney’s(29-0, 15 KOs) next fight will be against three-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko. Now it’s just a matter of when it’s going to happen.

According to ESPN Knockout, the bout is being targeted for May 2023 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Additionally, Haney went to social media and suggested that the contest could land on ESPN pay-per-view.

MAKING CONCESSIONS

A stumbling block for all parties has revolved around the date of the match. A practicing Muslim, Haney wanted the fight to happen in early-mid March, before the Muslim practice of Ramadan, which lasts from March 22 – April 21. It now appears that the contest is being pushed back.

Haney is coming off a fantastic 2022. In June of that year, the 24-year-old scored a unanimous decision victory over George Kambosos Jr to become the undisputed champion at 135. That was followed up by a rematch win over Kambosos in October 2022, again by unanimous decision. After a self-imposed sabbatical to be with his comrades in his homeland of Ukraine as that country is at war with Russia, Lomachenko returned to the ring in October 2022 and came away with a hard-earned unanimous decision win over then-undefeated Jamaine Ortiz.

Whether it lands on pay-per-view or ESPN, it’s a highly anticipated fight by both, fans and pundits. Negotiations are ongoing, but all sides are optimistic a deal will be finalized. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for further updates.
