Floyd Schofield Wants Prospect Smoke At Lightweight; Names Castro and Davis
The future of the lightweight division looks promising when looking at the next generation. Undefeated prospect Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (12-0, 10KO), after running over Daniel “Bad Boy” Rosas (22-6-1, 14KO), puts prospects Keyshawn Davis and Marc Castro on notice.
In his first Golden Boy Promotion headliner, Kid Austin went on the attack early and was relentless in scoring a first-round stoppage against Rosas. He hit Bad Boy with a barrage of punches before ending the contest with time to spare in the first round.
SCHOFIELD WANTS A FIGHT WITH OTHER TOP PROSPECTS
During the post-fight interview, Schofield was not shy about calling out the top prospects.
“What’s next is hopefully I can get on another fight before the end of this year. I want all the top dogs in my weight class they call prospects. Cause I’m the top prospect, and I think I just proved it.”
Furthermore, he was not afraid to mention the names of the guys he wanted, when asked.
“Marc Castro, Keyshawn Davis, all of them. Everybody who they consider a prospect, let’s fight. Let’s see who’s the top prospect. It can’t be twenty of us. Only one can come out on top.”
On August 6, the 20-year-old Texas resident caught the eye of Oscar De La Hoya on the undercard of top welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz’s victory over Michael McKinson.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO, De La Hoya, was convinced Schofield was the goods and swiftly signed the young talent. It is refreshing to hear a prospect actively willing to prove who is the best by fighting other top prospects.
