Serrano puts a close to her boxing career as she decides to focus full-time on being an MMA fighter!

Six division champion Amanda Serrano hangs up the boxing gloves permanently for MMA ones. The 29 year-old Puerto Rican star took to Instagram stating the following:

“So its a Rap for my Boxing career I’m going to concentrate on becoming a Full Time MMA Fighter. My company @combateamericas has shown me that this is the sport I should be in permanently. Press release out soon.”

Serrano started her boxing career at featherweight but has won titles at as low as bantamweight. Her last bout in September saw her become a six division champion. She was able to out-box Yamila Reynoso over 10 rounds for the WBO junior welterweight title.

This made her the first Puerto Rican fighter (male or female) to achieve this feat. In addition, she joined the company of Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao as the only other fighters to achieve this as well.

This will be a blow to many boxing fans that longed for a mega fight between her and undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus. Talks of this bout happening had been going on for years as the boxing consensus had the two women interchangeable at #1 and #2 on the pound for pound list. The fact that she ends her career in a division right underneath Braekhus makes it more difficult to accept.

Regardless, 3kingsboxing.com would like to wish the legend well in her career as an MMA fighter. She has already entered the octagon before; gaining a draw in April against Corina Herrera (3-4-1, 1KO). On October 13, she will continue her MMA career against Erendira Ordonez (1-2, 0KO).
