3kingboxing.com reported that the WBC ordered a match between Stevenson and Martin. A purse bid was set for September 5. However, the two parties agreed to a deal just hours before the scheduled purse bid.
The WBC title became vacant on August 2 when the sanctioning body named the then-undisputed lightweight champion, Devin Haney, the WBC Champion in Recess. Haney’s next bout will be at junior welterweight as he will face WBC 140-pound champion Regis Prograis this fall.
TWO TALENTED FIGHTERS
Stevenson became the WBC mandatory challenger with a sixth-round stoppage over Shuichiro Yoshino in April 2023. Martin’s last outing was a unanimous decision victory over Artem Harutyunyan in July 2023.
Martin is considered the more aggressive and explosive of the two. Many pundits view Stevenson as one of the most skilled fighters in the sport. On paper, this is one of the best matchups in the lightweight division. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for additional updates on the exact time and locale for this upcoming contest.
