Shakur Stevenson Calls out Leo Santa Cruz

After pitching a clinic against recent opponent Felix Caraballo (13-2-2, 9 KO’s), it appears that WBO featherweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (14-0, 8 KO’s) is enjoying his stay at super featherweight. In fact, rather than entertaining thoughts about moving back down, Stevenson is busy sizing up who he wants next at 130.

Not only has Fearless thoroughly surveyed the super featherweight landscape, he has already identified who his ideal next opponent would be. Armed with his reconnaissance of the division, Fearless was only too happy to tell EsNews who he’d like to trade leather with in his next assignment.

GIVE ME SANTA CRUZ!!

While there are a number of fighters skill-wise that Stevenson would love to test himself against, Fearless doesn’t think that politically all of them would be easy to make. Of the fights that appealed to his inner athlete, and political matchmaker, was none other than WBA super world super featherweight champion Leo Santa “El Terremoto” Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KO’s).

“I’m ready to fight Leo Santa Cruz tomorrow if I had too! I am just praying that he answers the call; like he hear me keep saying his name and it’s like he is trying to ignore it. And I seen the one interview, he said ‘oh yeah I would fight Shakur Stevenson in the future.’”

“But it doesn’t sound like he is too in tune on fighting me as quick as possible. So I kind of want to fight Leo Santa Cruz. Leo know I want to fight him, I just at’ed him on Twitter, I at’ed him on InstaGram. I mean I did all that I could do, now it just up to Leo.”

THERE’S A TANK IN THE WAY

So now the ball is back in Leo Santa Cruz’s court. Unfortunately, for Stevenson however, Cruz is waist deep in negotiations with WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KO’s) for his next professional clash.

Given the amount of time and attention that has gone into making Cruz v Davis, it’s highly unlikely that Team Cruz will go in a drastically different direction. So, on the outside looking in, it appears that Shakur Stevenson will have to wait on that bout a bit longer. However, much stranger things have happened!
