Can Hamzah Sheeraz Deliver the Stoppage Against Zachenhuber?
Hamzah Sheeraz makes the first defense of the WBO super middleweight title on July 25 against Simon Zachenhuber in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The defending champion is hoping to walk through Zachenhuber and end matters as quickly and decisively as possible.
ON A MISSION TO DOMINATE
In only his second fight in the division, Sheeraz (23-0-1, 19 KOs) captured the then-vacant WBO belt with a second-round knockout of Alem Begic on May 23 in Giza, Egypt. He’s looking to be just as impressive against Zachenhuber (29-1, 18 KOs). During an exclusive interview with England’s Playbook Boxing podcast, the WBO champion expressed confidence in taking care of business on fight night.
“Saturday night, this is a world title opportunity for himself. You know he’s going to be coming with everything and more. So, that is what makes him dangerous. I just go to be on my A-Game and I’ll beat him all day long.
[…] You got to do it, especially at this kind of level, defending what I’m defending, you got to do it in a very tactical and very smart way. So, I do plan on getting him out of there.”
NEVER LET AN OPPORTUNITY PASS BY
It’s a quick turnaround for Sheeraz. However, with the opportunity to fight on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s return against Kristian Prenga, he gladly accepted the chance to compete on such a high-profile event.
Many pundits believe Sheeraz has quickly established himself as one of the division’s elite fighters. Against Zachenhuber, who enters as a sizeable underdog, the mission is twofold. First and foremost, Sheeraz must retain his title while delivering the kind of dominant performance expected of a rising champion. Secondly, the Englishman aims to boost his growing reputation with another emphatic finish. A convincing win would prove Sheeraz is ready for elite challenges beyond his first title defense.
