Errol Spence vs Tim Tszyu Comes at a Crossroad for Both Men

Former unified 147 pound champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr.’s dismissive attitude towards Tim “Phoenix” Tszyu could be a huge mistake. In addition, the Texan has created a do-or-die situation where a loss would mean the end of his career. Or is one-time 154 pound champion Tszyu a done fighter after suffering two brutal stoppages?

The Truth (28-1, 22KO) is finally stepping back into the ring after a 3-year hiatus, as a middleweight. The last time fans saw him was after suffering a humbling beatdown by retired three-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford in 2023. He has since changed trainers after trainer Derrick James filed a lawsuit for breach of contract and fraud. The long layoff and separation from James have added to fans’ belief he may not be the same fighter.

Tszyu (27-3, 18KO) has bounced back to climb back into title contention after getting stopped by champion Sebastian Fundora and one-time champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. Although he has compiled victories against low-level competition, there are questions about his heart. His corner stopped the fight in the Fundora rematch when he quit on the stool in 2025.

WHO’S CAREER IS ON THE LINE MORE?

Spence’s attitude about the Aussie is somewhat understandable considering Tszyu’s claims of taking out his surgically repaired eye. Moreover, the Texan is questioning his mental toughness for quitting in the corner in the Fundora rematch. His disrespectful behavior towards Phoenix has kicked into overdrive as the fight approaches. This is why a loss will make it hard for him to continue fighting.

Tszyu isn’t in clear water by any means and is risking a lot by taking this fight. He is at the front of the line for a title shot with the WBO. Furthermore, his career hangs in the balance, as a third devastating loss in a high profile fight will be hard for his career to survive.

Does Spence still have what it takes to compete for a world title ? Can Tszyu overcome The Truth in a heated battle? One thing is for certain: this is a fight where the loser’s career will probably be over.
