Stephen Espinoza Sees It As A Positive That Davis vs Garcia Is Held Up By One Issue
President of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza is excited to hear Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has only one issue before signing the contract on multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26KO) versus Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (23-0, 19KO) April 15 showdown.
On February 6, De La Hoya set off the fire alarm with a series of posts on social media that had fans feeling as if things were about to collapse in negotiations. The Golden Boy promoter is standing firm on wanting DAZN to be the lead broadcasting network in the event of a rematch.
ESPINOZA IS OPTIMISTIC
As the boxing community is bracing for another possible disappointment, Espinoza sees it as a positive that can be worked out. During an interview on Chicken Tawk, the Showtime Executive was very candid in explaining why this is good news.
“We sent a revised draft to them last week and we haven’t heard anything. When I read on ESPN.com that there is only one issue left that’s the first time I’ve heard that . So great if there is one issue. If this is the last issue, this is the only issue, it’s not insurmountable.”
Espinoza went deeper by stating DAZN has been quiet for weeks, which he believes is a good sign.
“If it’s down to one issue that’s phenomenal news. When he [Oscar De La Hoya] says there’s one issue that means DAZN has no comments. Golden Boy has no comments. That is phenomenal news. That’s the best news I’ve heard all day.”
Espinoza’s optimism is a relief that boxing fans can expect both sides to get this across the finish line. 3kingsboxing.com will pay close attention to this story and provide any further updates.
