Ireland’s own Katie Taylor (11-0, 5KOs) prepares to return to action.
Unified female lightweight champion Katie Taylor (11-0, 5KOs) will collide with Eva Wahlstrom (22-0-1, 3KOs) of Finland on December 15. The bout will take place on the under-card of Canelo vs Fielding at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
Since turning professional in November of 2016, Taylor has been on a tear throughout the lightweight women’s division. The 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist picked up two major world titles within eight professional bouts with relative ease.
Watching the 32 year-old perform gives you a clear sense of why she’s found success so early. Her boxing IQ and speed consistently keeps her levels above the competition.
In her last bout, she clashed with tough veteran and WBO featherweight champion Cindy Serrano (27-6-3, 10KOs). Serrano entered the fight game looking to make a statement by utilizing lateral movement mixed with counter-punches to befuddle the champion.
However, Taylor’s aggressive game-plan and combination punches dictated the pace from start to finish. As each round passed, the margin between the two became even more apparent as Taylor boxed her way to victory.
Without a doubt, 38 year-old Wahlstrom will come to fight. The WBC super-featherweight champion has the opportunity to be the first woman in professional boxing to defeat Taylor. If that weren’t enough motivation, a victory in her USA debut against such a formidable name could propel her career.
Wahlstrom was last in action against Melissa St. Vil (11-3-4, 1KO) back in April. The back-and-forth affair would show the champions toughness as she managed a majority decision victory.
Nonetheless, Wahlstrom is moving up in weight and will need to bring her A-game.
