Brandon Figueroa Topples Nick Ball at Home to Claim his Belt!

In dramatic fashion, Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KO’s) defeated WBA featherweight champion Nick “The Wrecking” Ball (23-1-1, 13 KO’s) during his latest tour of duty, in Liverpool. With the victory, Figueroa becomes a two-division champion and opens up a slew of new opportunities.

Throughout the contest, the battle was fairly even, with Ball appearing to maintain a small edge in activity. As the bout wore on however, The Heartbreaker began to enjoy a bit more success as The Wrecking slowed a bit. Despite the somewhat seesaw nature of the duel, neither man was ever heads and shoulders above the other.

This would swiftly change in the twelfth and final round. With both men amped and looking to finish the fight in style, during an exchange, Ball was clipped with a meanspirited left hook that left him flat faced on the canvas.

To his credit, The Wrecking found his feet but his legs, knees and resolve were all wobbly and unsure. Moments after the action resumed, Ball was pummeled into the ropes at which point referee Steve Gray halted the duel.

In terms of what’s next, Figueroa made his interest in unifying titles known. As unspecific as he was, his belt-carrying compatriots include Rafael Espinoza (WBO), Angelo Leo (IBF) and Bruce Carrington (WBC).
