Tyson Fury Talks Sugar Hill and Potential Locations
When WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s) began preparations for his rematch with Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s) he caused quite a stir.
Fury accomplished this by abruptly dropping his former chief second, Ben Davison, and replacing him with Jovan “Sugar” Hill. The latter is best known for being the nephew of Hall of Fame boxing trainer Emanuel Steward and his work within the famed Kronk Gym.
It was true that the verbose Manchester native had worked with Sugar Hill many years prior. Yet the coach swap was still a jarring announcement. It was well reported that Davison was a key component in the Gypsy King’s rebound from depression and addiction. Therefore, many thought he’d be a mainstay as Fury’s lead trainer.
Clearly this was not the case.
THE BAND’S BACK TOGETHER
Now, in a recent interview with IFL TV, the WBC champion has confirmed he will be using Hill again prior to his trilogy with Wilder.
“Yeah, it’s going to be the same training team. Andy Lee, Sugar Hill, George Lockhart, Christian Blacklock and hopefully we get all the good sparring partners as well. They were a key asset to me.
“Me and Sugar Hill we are good buddies. We’re not just like trainer and fighter, we keep in contact. Sug is back at work, back at his day job. He loves it putting great work in, great effort. And I’m looking forward to getting him back over early.
“As soon as the bans are lifted on the flights I’m going to bring him in to do like a six week work-like schooling. Back to gym, back to school, not like a training camp but like to work on some things. Work on footwork, work on balance.
“We only had 8 weeks together last time. Like seven week training. But as soon as the flights are lifted I’ll be flying Sugar Hill back into the UK.”
SHOW MIGHT GO ON THE ROAD
While on the topic of his preparations for the third bout with the Bronze Bomber, Fury supplied the tentative information he has received regarding any potential dates and locations.
“I’ve been told we are looking at November or December if we’re lucky. And I’ve been told that we’ve got interest from Macau, China, we’ve got interest from Australia, we’ve got interest from Las Vegas and we’ve got interest from Saudi Arabia.
“We’ve also gotten interest from Qatar.”
So, it sounds like as soon as they can get an actual date and venue, this trilogy will be completely “full steam ahead”.
