Fans Wrongly Claim Oleksandr Usyk is Above Past All-time Greats

Since beating two-time heavyweight champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois, two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk has been the main topic of discussion. His place in boxing history is cemented, but some fans are going too far by calling him a top-five all-time great.

Usyk deserves flowers for being this generation’s top fighter – something most pundits agree on. Yet, when asked if he could beat some of the heavyweights from the era, fans claimed the Ukrainian would beat the likes of Lennox Lewis and Muhammad Ali.

All of these statements are laughable when you dig deep into this generation of heavyweights compared to the past. Some fighters were considered second tier, which would give Usyk hell or beat him. Guys like Ray Mercer, Tim Weatherspoon, and David Tua, to name a few.

In this author’s opinion, the cruiserweight version of Hall of Fame Inductee Evander Holyfield beats the Ukrainian. They were fighters with a high skill set and would match Usyk step-for-step. To be fair, the undisputed champion can compete with anyone from any era. But fans need to pump the brakes on saying he’s a top-five all-time great.
