Frank Warren eyes Billy Joe Saunders vs Callum Smith super middleweight unification!
The promoter of newly crowned WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, Frank Warren has reportedly made an offer to Callum Smith for a September unification bout.
Saunders is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Shefat Isufi in May to win the WBO title recently vacated by Gilberto Ramirez.
Smith is also coming off a recent victory. He made the first defense of his WBA title by knocking out former WBA regular middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam in the fourth round on the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz under-card.
It seems a stipulation for a deal is a 50-50 purse-split. In that case, Warren is already on record for meeting that stipulation in the offer to Smith. If this fight gets done, then it would pit two world-class fighters in a domestic bout.
Smith is a tall rangy boxer-puncher, while Saunders is a slick boxer with good foot movement and quick hands.
Let’s hope this all-British showdown happens, as it would go a long way in determining a possible undisputed champion in the super middleweight division.
