Anthony Yarde Gets Sweet Revenge by Stopping Lyndon Arthur

The much-anticipated rematch in the light heavyweight division is finally taking place. Lyndon “King” Arthur (19-0, 13ko) is looking for a repeat performance against former world title challenger Anthony Yarde (21-2, 20ko). This time a world title opportunity awaits the winner, so fans can expect both fighters to be extra motivated.

Yarde is undoubtedly a household name in British boxing. With very little amateur experience, the hard-punching light heavyweight captured both the WBO European and Inter-Continental titles, giving him the top spot in the WBO rankings. In 2019, he would lose his first world title bid against WBO champion Sergey Kovalev. Yarde has been on a mission to get back into a position to fight for a championship. The loss derailed those plans momentarily, which is why he is fully focused on winning the rematch.

Arthur has a solid amateur pedigree. He competed in several national championships, the ABA Senior Development, and he took the silver medal in the Elite English National championships. He also fought in the World Series of Boxing on team Lionhearts.

He started making a name for himself by winning the Commonwealth title. But, his surprising victory over Yarde for the WBO Inter-Continental title made the boxing world take notice. Arthur used that amateur background to his advantage, building everything off the jab. With a title opportunity on the line, he is looking to prove that his victory was not a fluke.

A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FIGHTER

Yarde bolted out of the corner like a lion out of a cage and he quickly let his hands go, landing hard left hooks and overhand rights. It was a different, more aggressive Yarde who was looking to use the power early in the fight while staying in the chest of Arthur.

However, Arthur, weathering the early storm, landed a lead right hand and body shots that seemed to take some steam out of Yarde. Both men began throwing bombs, and the fans held their breath, waiting for an explosion to happen.

YARDE GETS REVENGE AND A TITLE SHOT

In the fourth round, Yarde landed a left hook to the body that froze Arthur like a mannequin. With revenge on his mind, Yarde went on the attack like an animal stalking wounded prey.

Yarde pinned his opponent against the corner and continued to land crippling body shots, and landed a left hook that sent Arthur to the canvas. Arthur got back up, but the referee did not like his body language and waved the fight off.

Yarde has reclaimed his titles and a title shot against the winner of WBO light heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr versus Callum Johnson, live on ESPN+, scheduled for January 15, 2022.
