Eddie Hearn is not Willing to Pay the Price Tag for Terence Crawford
WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29ko) became the first fighter to ever stop two-time divisional champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter (31-4-1, 17ko) on November 20. Immediately afterwards, Crawford officially parted ways with long-time promoter Top Rank. Bud has been chasing big fights with some of the top names in the division. Moreover, he never got that fight that should have happened with Filipino senator Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao when they both were under the same banner.
Crawford was able to get fights against subpar opponents and past-prime former champions Amir Khan and Kell Brook, which failed to move the financial needle at all. However, he couldn’t get the top-tier guys in the ring until Porter decided to force the issue with the WBO.
TROUBLE IN PARADISE
If you have been following the story, the honeymoon between Crawford and Top Rank’s head honcho Bob Arum started crumbling back in 2020. Arum made it clear they were losing money on the WBO champion and was considering not resigning him.

“The question is: do we want to keep him? I could build a house in Beverly Hills on the money I’ve lost on him in the last three fights.”
Bob Arum – Top Rank Chairman
Arum even called into question the selling power for Crawford going into the Porter fight.
“We could make a big fight versus Porter, but who’s going to pay for it? There’s a limit to what I can get out of ESPN….And on PPV, Crawford’s never done anything on PPV.”
Bob Arum – Top Rank Chairman
Crawford would complain about not being promoted the same as other fighters inside the Top Rank stable.
“That’s not my job, I’m not a promoter! What am I? I’m a fighter, I get paid to fight! I don’t get paid to promote, he [Bob Arum] gets paid to promote.”
Terence Crawford – WBO Welterweight Champion
It was inevitable that a split was on the horizon and after Bud defeated Porter, it happened.
“I’m pretty sure that my decision is made already. Bob couldn’t secure me the Spence fight when I was with him, so how he’s going to secure the Spence fight if I am not with him? So I am moving forward with my career right now and I wish everybody the best.”

EDDIE HEARN NOT LOOKING TO GRAB CRAWFORD
Immediately, fans hit social media asking what is next for Crawford now that he is a free agent. For those that thought it would be a bidding war, DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn comments only leave Crawford one place to go.
During an interview with Champside, Hearn was brutally honest on why he is unwilling to make an offer to acquire the WBO champion.
“The only fight for Terence Crawford is [unified champion] Errol Spence. Any other fight, no one is going to be interested in and Bob can’t deliver that fight. I can’t deliver that fight. People say to me, ‘are you going to make an offer for Terence Crawford?’ With what?!“
“He’s not hitting the numbers the purses justify, and at the same time, I can’t deliver him the fight that he needs.”
