Boxing Continues To Fail In Producing A Mega-Fight

If this author had to give the sport of boxing a grade, it probably would be C- or D. The sport hasn’t produced any memorable moments in 2025. With half the year almost over, it is still missing that one mega-fight. Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs two-divisional undisputed champion Terence “Bud” Crawford is considered a big fight by default.

With the emergence of Saudi Arabia’s power player Turki Alalshki, fans had high hopes going into 2025. The boxing community hoped things would be different after an abysmal 2024. Well, things haven’t gone according to plan as fights featuring Canelo vs William Scull and Ryan Garcia vs Rolando Romero bombed horribly.

Yes, we had Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev undisputed rematch, but that fight was supposed to happen. The war between Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank and the upcoming Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois undisputed match are not mega-fights.

The last mega-fight that had the sport buzzing was Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight crown in 2023. Boxing is beginning to drift into the slow-driving lane watching everything pass by.
