Abdullah Mason Continues His Quest to Become World Champion On July 1

Come July 1, lightweight fighter and former amateur standout Abdullah Mason (8-0, 7 KO’s) will stage his third duel of the year. In this affair, Mason will test his might against Alex de Oliveira (20-4, 14 KO’s) on the undercard of Jared Anderson versus Charles Martin. There is little doubt that the debilitating bruiser will be aiming to score another knockout.

To date, Angel Barrera was the only person to make the final bell with Mason. All others have succumbed to his pressure, accuracy and organ-deflating body attack. The Cleveland-born fighter is currently riding a four-fight KO streak. Even better for his reputation, the last two entertaining prizefights were broadcast live on ESPN.

Yet, while the high knockout ratio and recognition on television is nice, Mason’s true mission is something else entirely.

“My family, they keep me focused inside the gym and we all share the same goal and that’s to be a world champion in the sport. So we are just working towards it and it’s eventually going to come, inshallah.”

EYES ON THE PRIZE

Having not even reached two full years as a professional, 19-year-old Mason is making a good amount of noise and turning heads as well. Coached by his father, Valiant Mason, the young pugilist has frequently displayed a diverse arsenal, patience, intelligence and nice pop in his punches. It’s a little wonder why the promotional powerhouse Top Rank was eager to sign the crafty bruiser.

Assuming he continues along at his current trajectory, Adbullah Mason may find himself to be a major player in the division in the next few years. Before all that can happen though, Mason must first take care de Oliveira on July 1.
