Are Amateur Rivals Andy Cruz and Keyshawn Davis Destined For A Pro Bout?

The lightweight division has inherited a possible big fight in the future featuring amateur rivals Andy Cruz and Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (8-0, 6KO). The Cuban amateur sensation is well aware of the significance of what fighting Davis down the line could mean.

These two fighters share a deep-rooted history that has kept them linked together from the amateurs into the professional ranks. Cruz has served Davis a loss every time they’ve faced each other. The moment Cruz inked a deal with Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, the boxing community has been eyeing a fight between the two arch-rivals.

CRUZ LIKES THE IDEA OF FACING DAVIS AGAIN

While speaking with iFL TV, Cruz acknowledges that it would be a big fight down the line. The following quote has been translated from Spanish.

“I said I want the big fights in the future, and at the moment, I don’t believe he is one of those big fights or one of those big fighters. But, if he starts to win, if he starts to position himself amongst the best fighters as we say. It could be an opportunity, and it could be a fight that we possibly have further down the line.”

Davis Is not shy about wanting revenge for those amateur losses and had no problem letting Hearn know what to do to make the fight.

Looking to kick off his career with a bang, the Cuban will debut against tough veteran and three-time world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos on July 15. In addition, he has the chance to skip the line in the rankings with the vacant IBF International title up for grabs.
