Knyba Scores The Biggest Career Victory Over Ruiz
Former heavyweight champion Andy “Destroyer” Ruiz (35-3-1, 22 KO’s) returned to action against Damian “Polish Hussar” Knyba (18-1, 11 KO’s). Once in the ring, he was promptly beaten up, dropped, and kicked around like a soccer ball at the World Cup. As a result of the one-sided drubbing, Knyba walked away with a unanimous decision victory. The Destroyer on the other hand asked for a rematch.
With the win under his belt, Knyba was quick to express his desire for payback against WBC champion Agit Kabayel.
“There were a lot of things going on in the last camp that went against me. Some things played a factor that were out of my control, so I could not be at the best form that I like to be in…the ref really did a bad stoppage in my fight with Kabayel, and I really want a rematch with Kabayel.
The Polish Hussar isn’t ranked by any of the four sanctioning bodies, so a title shot of any kind is going to be a hard sell. We’ll just have to wait and see who Team Knyba can rustle up next.
As for Andy Ruiz, after this defeat, the window of opportunity may have closed. In the post-fight in-ring interview, the former champion mentioned a rematch. One thing is for certain the Mexican fighter can’t afford to take another two-year hiatus from the sport.
“I’d love to run it back and do things a lot differently…I need to stay active, and I want to fight again!”
