George Arias Defeats Alante Green in a Lackluster Bout
In their latest dustup, where someone’s 0 had to go, heavyweight George “Gentleman” Arias (18-0, 7 KO’s) collided with Alante Green (10-1-1, 7 KO’s). Each man looked to show a bit of separation in skill when they chucked knuckles in the belly of the Turning Stone Resort & Casino located in Verona, New York.
When initially signed to promoter Lou DiBella, and manager Dmitry Salita, there were high hopes for Arias. Since that time however, the Dominican pugilist has been moved at a rather dreary pace. In fact, in his last duel with the equally unproven Cassius Chaney, Arias was forced to settle for a split decision victory in a sleep-inducing bout.
For his part, Green was still looking to establish himself as a dangerous fighter having primarily made his bones in his home state of Ohio. As a boost of confidence, the Cleveland fighter entered this bout riding back-to-back knockout victories. Green must have been feeling good as he moved up from cruiserweight to make the fight a reality. Within his native division, Green is ranked #9 (IBF) and #15 (WBC).
EASY TO FORGET
The opening round saw little action outside of Arias backpedaling while Green tried to track him down with the jab. The same rather uninspired action persisted for the next two rounds. Green walked down the constantly retreating Arias who would slink along or lean on the ropes. The action picked up a pinched in the final thirty seconds of the third as both fighters duked it out in the pocket. Yet, few shots of note landed.
The fifth saw Gentleman hold his ground more than any other round; this led to more consistent action. The more grueling nature of the bout persisted through the sixth and saw Arias get the better of the exchanges. Yet, neither man was truly hurting or seriously pulling away from the other. During the seventh, Arias began utilizing his feet again. Sadly, the eighth and final round was as forgettable as most of the periods that preceded it. When the scorecards were read, Arias narrowly prevailed by way of split decision to the tune of 78-74 (Arias), 77-75 (Green) and 77-75 (Arias).
