Bob Arum Says Robeisy Ramirez Soon to Receive his Title Opportunity
Featherweight contender Robeisy Ramirez (11-1, 7KO) is in the perfect position for two title opportunities. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum believes it will be for the WBO title providing current champion Emanuel Navarrete (36-1, 30KO) chooses to vacate the title.
Ramirez has been tearing through the ranks since suffering a defeat in his debut bout against Adan Gonzales in 2019. The boxing community was buzzing after witnessing his five-round destruction of undefeated top contender Abraham Nova. That was a pivotal victory as he won the vacant WBO Global title, pushing him into the number three spot.
WHAT IF NAVARRETE DOES NOT VACATE?
During an interview with Give Me Sport, Arum hinted at the Cuban fighting for the WBO title.
“I mean, I think he’s in line to fight for a vacant title. I think it’ll be for the WBO. I mean, it’s coming.”
Navarrete is scheduled to fight Liam Wilson for the vacant WBO junior lightweight title on February 3. As previously reported, he is uncertain about leaving the featherweight division upon winning the title.
Here is where things get interesting. Ramirez will likely hold the number-three spot with the IBF once the organization updates its rankings. This puts him close to a possible title shot with IBF champion Luis Lopez (27-2, 15KO).
If Navarrete decides to stay at featherweight, then Ramirez could challenge Lopez for the IBF title. Providing he is victorious, fans could see a unification between Navarrete and Ramirez later in the year.
There are plenty of other scenarios that can unfold. 3Kings Boxing will be paying close attention to them all and provide any updates.
