Vincent Astrolabio Stops Sor Rungvisai to Win WBC Eliminator

At the Suamlum Night Bazaar in Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok, Thailand, Vincent Astrolabio (19-4, 14 KOs) came one step closer to another world title shot as he scored an eleventh-round stoppage over Nawaphon Sor Rungvisai (58-3-1, 48 KOs) in what was a WBC bantamweight world title eliminator.

HIGH-INTENSITY BATTLE

Astrolabio used his faster hands and feet to land with rapid-fire combinations to score early and often during the first half of the contest. In the opening minute of round three, Astrolabio stunned Sor Rungvisai with a right uppercut.

But Sor Rungvisai picked up the tempo in the middle rounds and began to apply pressure. He had success scoring with hooks and uppercuts on the inside and overhand rights at long range. Astrolabio stayed cool and landed punches of his own on the inside. However, by the end of the tenth round, Sor Rungvisai seemed to have all the momentum.

At the halfway mark of round eleven, Astrolabio connected with a picture-perfect counter right hand that put the Thai fighter down facefirst. Sor Rungvisai was able to get up, but a follow-up assault from Astrolabio caused the referee to wisely stepped in and call a halt to the contest.

Overall, it was a highly entertaining scrap. With the win, Astrolabio becomes the WBC mandatory bantamweight contender and puts himself in line for a fight with the reigning WBC bantamweight champion, Alexandro Barrios.
