Nick Ball Discombobulates and Stops Isaac Lowe in Six!

Featherweight boxer Isaac “Westgate Warrior” Lowe (21-2-3, 6 KO’s) sadly hopped back in the losing column making for back-to-back losses. Lowe accomplished this by getting stunned and stopped by Nick Ball (15-0, 8 KO’s). With the win, Ball, 25, has successfully protected his undefeated record. Apparently the slightly older and more traveled Lowe, 28, could not use his experience to win the day. Now, armed with the vacant WBC featherweight silver title, it will be interesting to see who Nick Ball takes on next.

NECK-AND-NECK

The bout opened at a high pace and saw both men throw a variety of shots throughout the period. Despite the volume of punches, neither had found their range so the greater majority of the offense was off-target and in vain. This all changed in the second when Ball rocked Lowe early in the period. To his credit, the Westgate Warrior rebounded well until the last 40 seconds when he was flat out floored along the ropes with a wide left hook. Lowe beat the count and soaked up some more punishment as a reward.

Lowe enjoyed a good stabilizing third round, yet he did sustain a cut over his left eye after a thudding clash of heads. The fourth was the grittiest and most evenly contested period of the fight thus far. The Westgate Warrior attempted to drown Ball in an endless river of hooks aimed primarily at the torso. The gash on his face oozed red blood at an increased rate, leaving his once white trunks stained with gore. Ball got low, slipped into punching range and threw his sharp shots near exclusively at the chin. A thin trickle of blood now streamed from his left nostril.

SUDDEN DEATH

The fifth was largely like the fourth only with less volume. In the sixth, Ball’s counterpunching came roaring to life. As Lowe continued to press the action, Ball found outrageous success with a tight, thumping uppercut on the inside. The end came when Ball shoved Lowe out of a clinch and into a corner. Even though his back was slightly turned, with the ref intensely watching, Ball clobbered the Westgate Warrior with another hard left uppercut that jellied his legs. With his man hurt, Ball fell in for the kill. Following one more uppercut, referee Victor Loughlin halted the action.
