David Benavidez versus Demetrius Andrade Talks Ongoing

Two-time world champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) and two-division champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) are considered two elite fighters in the super middleweight division. Could they be on a collision course to fight each other?

Word on the street is they are currently in negotiations to trade leather on top of a card this fall on Showtime pay-per-view.

Benavidez is the current WBC Interim super middleweight champion and has been out of action since a unanimous decision victory over former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant in March 2023. In January 2023, Boo Boo returned from a fourteen-month layoff to score a unanimous decision over Demond Nicholson.

EAGER FOR THE BIG FIGHTS

Following the win over Plant, The Mexican Monster sought a match with undisputed 168-pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. There were also talks of a bout between Benavidez and reigning WBA Regular champion David Morrell.

It has become clear Alvarez is not interested in getting in the ring with Benavidez and instead has chosen to fight undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo on September 30. The talks of a bout between Benavidez and Morrell never came to a finalized deal.

Like Benavidez, Andrade has coveted a fight with Alvarez but has been frustrated with his inability to get the Mexican superstar in the ring. In recent months, Andrade and WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo were on social media talking up a fight with each other. But that discussion was just that – a discussion and nothing else.

A TERRIFIC MATCHUP

Were Benavidez and Andrade to fight, you would have a contrast in styles. The Mexican Monster is a calculated pressure fighter with quick hands and two-fisted power. Andrade is a lefty and more of a pure boxer. At his best, Boo Boo is one of the slickest fighters in the sport.

Given the current stages of their careers, the fight would make sense for both gentlemen. They would earn a decent payday. It’s the kind of fight that would attract the attention of boxing enthusiasts, especially the hardcore sect. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for any additional information on this developing story.
