David Benavidez Wants to Welcome Demetrius Andrade into the Division

Two-time WBC super middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (25-0, 22 KO’s) and WBO middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (31-0, 19 KO’s) could intertwine. Benavidez has taken the first step to make this happen by calling out Andrade. If they collide, the boxing fans are the winners. Both fighters have found themselves put on the “do not fight” list by undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. A match-up would have both jockeying for position to change that fate.

ANDRADE STILL CHASING CANELO ALVAREZ

Andrade has been chasing Alvarez for a fight since they were in the junior middleweight division several years ago. He moved up to middleweight hoping to get a fight with Alvarez to no avail. Boo Boo recently sent social media into a frenzy with news of him possibly vacating the 160-pound title. He would seek to move up to super middleweight and corner Alvarez into a fight.

Keep in mind, this in no shape, form, or fashion guarantees the Andrade a fight with the undisputed champion. Canelo has proven to be slicker than a can of synthetic high mileage oil when it comes to fighting Andrade.

BENAVIDEZ WANTS TO FIGHT ANDRADE

Benavidez has also been added to Alvarez’s “no fight” list. Equally important, only when Red Flag was stripped of the WBC title did Alvarez show interest in becoming the division’s first-ever undisputed champion. Red Flag has been very vocal as of late, calling for Canelo to fight him or vacate the titles. He will be fighting former champion David Lemieux for the WBC Interim title, and a victory would place him even more on the heels of the undisputed champion.

Benavidez is already aware the power the Mexican superstar has could enable him to elude a fight with him. Therefore, he has decided to turn his focus on Andrade. Social media went bananas after seeing Red Flag throw down the gauntlet in a live video.

A GREAT FIGHT FOR THE FANS

The boxing community should get behind wanting to see this fight become a reality. These are two highly skilled, undefeated lions in their prime which is something the sport has been lacking. This author would breakout the credit card and gladly pay to see these two guys stepping into the squared circle. Eddie Hearn has also thrown his support behind making this fight happen.

Instead of looking for a legacy payday fight that may or may not happen with Alvarez, they can make their own legacy which is how the sport used to be.
