Evelin Bermudez and Jessica Nery Plata On A Collision Course For Undisputed
Evelin “La Princesita” Bermudez (18-1-1, 6 KOs) defeated Tania Enriquez by a unanimous decision (96-94, 97-93, 97-93) to capture the vacant IBF and WBO women’s junior flyweight titles at the Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Bermudez could now be on a path to even bigger fights at 108.
Bermudez had her share of difficulties dealing with the timing and movement of Enriquez during the first half of the fight. But inspired by a raucous home crowd cheering her every move, La Princesita pulled away in the championship rounds to secure the victory.
With the win, the Argentinian is now a two-time unified junior flyweight champion. She previously was a unified (IBF, WBO) champion but lost the belts by a majority decision to Yokasta Valle in November 2022. Valle opted to vacate the titles, leaving Bermudez and Enriquez to fight for the belts.
READY TO FIGHT FOR ALL THE BELTS?
Up next for Bermudez could be a showdown with reigning unified (WBC, WBA) champion Jessica Nery Plata (29-2, 3 KOs), but that fight will likely have to wait. Word on the street is that Plata will fight a rematch against one-time WBC champion Kim Clavel, whom she previously defeated in January 2023. Plata has stated that her mission is to become undisputed in the division. Bermudez would have no problems fighting Plata later this year with all the belts at stake.
