Terence Crawford: Dismisses “Wrong Side Of The Street” Talk!
The welterweight division has left a lot to be desired over the course of the last four years. Sure, we’ve had some excellent fights. A quick few were Keith Thurman vs Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman-Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence vs Shawn Porter. However, the one name that wasn’t included on that list that boxing fans and pundits continue to push for is one Terence Crawford.
The three-division world champion, who currently holds the WBO welterweight title, will be back in action on December 14 when he takes on the unbeaten and hard-hitting Egidijus Kavaliauskas in the main event, live on ESPN+.
Although Crawford has only been at 147 for nearly two years, one may argue that that’s long enough to have already been able to cross paths with the aforementioned fighters. The narrative nowadays is that he’s on the “wrong side of the street”.
WHAT WRONG SIDE?
But if you ask Crawford, he quickly dismisses that notion. Speaking to reporters at his open workout, he was yet again asked about that “wrong side of the street” narrative going around.
“I just say it’s all of you guys that’s fed the people that wrong side of the street. There’s no such thing as a wrong side of the street in the sport of boxing. When you look at it, Deontay Wilder is about to fight Tyson Fury and you never heard anything about the wrong side of the street with PBC and Top Rank.
It’s just something that they say when it got Terence Crawford to do with it. You don’t hear about the wrong side of the street with any other fighter but Terence Crawford.
You know, then the media say he should’ve signed with PBC. But why, when all these other fights get made? But when it’s Terence Crawford, ‘aw he’s on the wrong side of the street’.”
While Crawford maintains that none of that talk bothers him, I beg to differ. While he is a great fighter that has accomplished an enormous amount in his career, locking horns with the best at welterweight will only enhance his resume and legacy.
As the old saying goes, “it takes two to tango”. It also takes two people to sign on the dotted line and fight.
Hopefully 2020 can bring a breakthrough between PBC and Top Rank when it comes to matching each others’ best welterweights.
